On 2004’s Lazy Old Sun, one recorded song wasn’t allowed to be put on the album. “Third Stone From the Sun”, a quintessential Jimi Hendrix classic was set to words by Fay Victor and she performed it regularly with her band. Jimi Hendrix publishing company was approached for permission and said flat out “if Jimi had wanted lyrics on there, he’d of wrote them himself!” Without even hearing the version Victor recorded.
Victor and writing collaborator Jochem van Dijk decided to write another melody to the existential lyrics and further decided to do an entire album of originals that would showcase the musical development FV and her new working band, the Fay Victor Ensemble. Cartwheels through the Cosmos was the critically acclaimed result.
