December 2017 News and Views

Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays! Sharing all the goodies I’ve got coming up this month, grateful to have music in my life to share with others to ride the tide of this political madness we’re in the midst of.  So much change I even learned and covered a Prince tune, something I said I’d never do! Up down, all around, change is upon us. Riding the tide is the new normal. Hold on!

Other brief (but important) news:  I’m currently on three releases that I’m  honored to say are all great projects getting wonderful reviews in media outlets from the New York Times, The Huffington Post, The New York City Jazz Record and more.  Been waaaaay behind in updating the Discography page on the FV website and will remedy that this month but in the meantime – since it’s the holidays – here they are should you want to purchase for your or someone else’s listening pleasure 🙂

  1. EMBRACE: Roswell Rudd/Fay Victor/Lafayette Harris/Ken Filiano – on RareNoise Records. Released on November 17, 2017 with great reviews so far including a feature on the New York Times playlist. https://www.rarenoiserecords.com/rudd-victor-harris-filiano
  2. NEW YORK – ST. JOHANN: Fay Victor/Elisabeth Harnik/Dominic Lash. Released March 1 2017 on Evil Rabbit Records. https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/reddeer https://www.facebook.com/Evil-Rabbit-Records-482944735102053/
  3. GLORIOUS RAVAGE: Bay area bassist/composer Lisa Mezzacappa’s sprawling song cycle with an incredible ensemble group of players including Myra Melford, Mark Dresser, Nicole Mitchell, Vinnie Golia, Darren Johnson and more…on New World Records https://gloriousravage.com/2017/11/03/recording-out-november-1-on-new-world-records/

As this year draws to a close and this world we live in feels more slippery and tenuous by the day, I’m grateful to be surrounded by beautiful and creative souls out to do whatever good that they can. No one knows what they can actually change but we know energy is power, energy is momentum and shifts can occur as long as we stay the course.  Being a creative person connecting with other like minded souls is the most powerful thing we can have. It’s why all autocratic leaning regimes try to suppress thinking/creative minds as soon as possible.  And make no mistake, that’s where we’re headed as a country, especially if we aren’t mindful of the opposite forces at work.  They too are strong.  Keep up the fight.

Wishing you all the best for the holiday season and I’ll be back with a posting closer to the end of the year.

With love, respect and gratitude,

Fay
